Welcome to the next installment of stuff I do to finish my new dollhouse. I'll take some up-to-date in-progress photos soon but first I have to clean up. Man, I stuffed stuff everywhere, no wonder I'm not making any progress with that project!
Anyway, here's a "little something" I set my heart on a while ago. A carpet made with embroidery. The motif is from a book on this topic ("Carpets and Rugs" by Sue Hawkins). The rugs in that book are actually for 1:12 doll houses while I work with 1:6 so I have to at least double the number of stitches or I'd end up with doormats. Therefore I scanned and printed the motif so I can cross out what I already did. One stitch on the template means 2x2 stitches on my rug.
Still, thanks to the extremely fine fabric I got for this the rug turns out rather smallish. And there's just no progress. I can't tell you how many hours exactly went into this already but it were many. More than many. At least 20.
What's worse, I saw rugs in similar size in an Asian shop on Ebay (one of the few I can still visit) and they only cost 2.30 a piece. So I ordered two and am curious to see how they'll look compared to mine.
For my next rug I found rougher fabric so I hope I can do with less stitches and get a bigger result. Maybe I can even work 1:1 from the template? But I had to promise to finish this one first.
I can't wait to finish this and to get the rugs I ordered. I think they will make very nice props in the story as well as on photos in general.
