A short report of a mini project.

Last Friday I recieved a package from Mimiwoo.com which contained a child pixie/elf head for Obitsu. The actual company that makes it is named Parabox but I can't find any info on them. They make heads that fit Obitsu bodies 100% in colour, style and size and they are Japanese too, so I wonder whether they're actually a sub company of Obitsu.
I also recieved a pair of grey glass eyes to go with the head.

Anyway, my plans for this head was to use it either on the 23cm boy body or on the 11cm child body by Obitsu that I have in my doll parts box. I was hoping to put it on the taller boy, since that body was too small to customize Isul and I had plans to sculpt a cat head for the 11cm body.
When I placed the head loosely on both it looked totally out of place on the taller boy. Maybe it's just that I've gotten used to dolls with big heads (Monster High heads are not regular size, after all, and of course Pullips even less), but the head looks tiny on that body.
So I decided to use it on the 11cm body. Maybe the taller boy will become the cat now?

Since it seemed like a small project and it was sunny I wanted to paint it right away, since I made very bad experiences with artificial light and dolls (mine look like clowns by daylight when they look good in artificial lighting). Believe it or not, as soon as I had opened all the blinds and sat down it started to rain! Bummer!

Today, though, the weather was nicer to me. I painted the doll in three steps and added a layer of Mr. Super Clear inbetween, then sealed my work with a fourth layer.
The special thing about this doll is that I only used one drop of acrylics - for the line between the lips. All the rest was done with colour pencils!
The doll even has red cheeks this time. Usually I don't like blush, but for a child it seemed fitting.
Only the cheeks were done with powdered down colour, for the rest I used the sharpened pencils right on the doll. The advantage of this method is that I was able to erase mistakes with an eraser! I doubt this would work on the harder and smoother Pullip faces but for this one it worked just fine. It also gives the doll a soft look. I didn't want a child doll that looks like it wears make-up.

When the paint job was done the rest was easy. I just had to remove the screw on top of the body's neck, then remove the plug, pop the head on, pop the plug back on and fasten the screw.
The eyes just get plugged into the soft eyeholes.

I'm a bit sad because the dollie is cross-eyed. After taking this picture I disassembled it again and made the plug a bit smaller since the eyes have short pins at the back which interfered with the plug. Scraping some material from the plug's sides allowed me to align the eyes a bit better but the doll is still cross-eyed because one pupil is a bit larger than the other one and it doesn't sit exactly in the middle of the eye either.
Eyes of that price should be made with a little more care, in my opinion.
But it can't be helped now.

I will take better photos of the doll's face once I've made it some clothes. I still can't decide whether it's a girl or a boy! Maybe neither?
The doll also has no hair, as a wig would have taken the package over the customs limit. Wigs of this size cost 10-15$ at Mimiwoo and there wasn't one that I really liked in the 10$ department. Currently I don't have that kind of money and I think for once I would actually prefer a fur wig anyway. So I guess I'll try to make one from raw sheep wool.

Since I've never sewn for such a tiny doll and thus have no patterns yet and I have to make said wig it might take a while before it shows up in the galleries. But I wanted to show it off here, since it's so cute and will fit in well with Dolltopia.

Since wigs for this size of doll are wildly expensive and I couldn't find anything I liked anyway I made her/him/it a wig of my own. ^^;

I crocheted a wig cap from mohair yarn and then used my needlefelting supplies to add white raw sheep wool.
That resulted in this tremendous mess of wild hair!

I trimmed it a lot after taking this photo but it's still wild and long and messy. I guess I finally need some barber's scissors. But s/he's supposed to be a forest sprite so wild hild like this is just what I wanted.

The dollie almost fits into the dresses I sewed for Shellie (Barbie's youngest sister, sewing patterns will be shared once I've written it all up and took photos), they are a tad bit too large. But it's a good start for a sewing pattern for this doll.

Oh, and by now s/he wears plastic eyes that were so cheap it almost hurts. They look by far better than the expensive glass eyes. Okay, they don't have the depth or shine, but the doll isn't cross-eyed anymore!

Hardest thing to make will be shoes. Boots cost 5.80$ even at half prize!
