For starters I used a premade papier mache item for this project. It's a cupcake which turned out to be a box which is quite conveniant for painting.

Pic 2: Nothing grand yet. I painted the top pink and drybrushed it a bit with lighter pink. The bottom was painted blue and then smothered in thinned-down pva glue to add glitter. The layer has not become as even as I wanted but in afterthought that's okay. It gives it a bit of a run-down look if there's not glitter everywhere, but just oh so slightly.

This piece is to become a shop decoration for my doll bakery. As thus it portrays plastic or concrete and I didn't put too much work into making it look lifelike.
Now I'm kind of at a loss though, once again. In the shop I had lots of ideas for this but at home they were all vanished. The muffin is so high already - shall I really try to add extra whipped cream at the top or not? I want to glue some beads on as hundreds and thousands and maybe some bigger beads as chocolade chunks. I would have liked sugar but doubt the craft store has something suitable - at least I couldn't find anything like it when I wanted it as ice on a branch.

What else could I do with the cupcake?

Oooh! That looks exciting! I don't think it needs whipped cream, I think that's what the top is supposed to be anyway so more would look a tad silly. But the beads sound brilliant!

Also, I found some of that 'flock' stuff in a store today! 99p for a small pot of the stuff (To be fair, 99p isn't bad when you think what places like GW charge for their 'snow'.)

No, I only have a very sad story of a very sad papier mache mushroom to offer that was involved in a stupid accident by a brainless tinkerer. -_-
At least that gave me an idea though. I can mix the glitter into sealant and thus varnish the blue part and at the same time add more glitter to it for a more uniform look.
I wonder if I have any beads that fit. I'll go and have a look.

At long last, here's the finished cupcake! Err... the photo turned out somewhat bluish. I added a tiny bit of glitter to the top as frosting before I glued on the brown and crystal beads with pva glue. Most of the time the holes in the beads are barely seen.

Next time I'll tell you what I did to this poor shroom. Here it was still fine, just given a basecoat of white. Don't be fooled by the photo - this is huge! It's twice the height of the cupcake, about 20cm. I bought it as a background prop for photos with faerie dolls.

Alright, I said I'd tell you what happened to the poor shroom.

Since I wanted it to be a "bit" glittery I mixed some golden and greenish glitter into the brown paint for the cap and painted it this way. In the end the glitter effect wasn't enough for me (pic 1) so I mixed more glitter into brush-on varnish. And that's where desaster stroke!

After it was dry I wondered why the heck the shroom was so rubbery and slightly sticky to the touch. It was just weird. Well, until I noticed that what I had taken for matte varnish was actually liquid frisket to mask out parts of watercolours. >.< It's supposed to be rubbed off the paper when you're done. Argh!
Well, it had fused with the shroom pretty well (and of course I had painted on 2 layers, go me!) and so I didn't even try to remove it.

I found the varnish and gave it two coats, again mixed with glitter. (pic 2) Now I
a) must hope that the rubber stuff won't change colour with age
b) have to add more brown paint with a sponge to get rid of some of the glitter. That was the plan anyway, to have some glittery spots and some that are just slightly shiny. I also want to add some green and gold paint for a slightly mossy, faerie-tale look. I just don't like how overly shiny the MATTE varnish is, once again. I guess once the whole shroom is done (the stalk isn't shaded or highlighted yet either) I'll give it a coat of spray-on varnish to make it really matte. Although I wanted to achieve a slightly wet/slimy surface for the cap the current shine is just way over the top.
